What can I expect at an Eyebrow Permanent Makeup appointment?

Every Brow Service starts with a consultation. I asses your skin type and eyebrow hair. We then discuss why you want this service done and what your end goals are. This is a great time to show me any photos you saved of my work that you are particularly drawn to. If you fill in your brows every day with makeup, please come to your service with them filled in. This way I can see what you are used to. After we decide which service is best, I will shape your brows and draw the design on with a pencil. We will make any tweaks and adjustments together to make sure they are perfect. I then numb you up with a 5% topical lidocaine. After you are all numb, I get started on making your new brows permanent!

How should I prepare for my eyebrow appointment?

It is vital that you properly follow all pre-care instructions as it can greatly affect your healed results. Failure to follow pre-care instructions may result in you being sent home the day of. So PLEASE read very carefully!

3 WEEKS BEFORE:

  • Retin-A and Hydroxy Acids (Salicylic, Glycolic, Lactic): Please do not use any of these ingredients on or near the brow area. If you are using Retin-A keep it off your forehead entirely. This can cause excessive bleeding which will result in blurred/ashy healed results. (I recommend never using Retin-A on your forehead ever again once your brows are tattooed, it will make your strokes blur and turn the color grey. So either choose Retin-A or PMU, unfortunantly you cant have both.)

  • Waxing/Threading/Tweezing: I recommend coming to your appointment with your brows as grown in as possible. I will clean them up for you at your appointment. If you must wax please do so at lest 2 weeks before your appointment. If you Tint your brows please do so 1 week before your appointment.

  • Botox: If you regularly get Botox it must be done at least 2 weeks prior to your appointment to allow for it to settle. Otherwise you could end up with uneven brows.

  • Sun Exposure Please avoid excessive sun exposure and tanning beds as tanned skin wont heal as well. If you are sunburned we cannot do your brows.

  • Facial Treatments Please do not receive any chemical peels, Microdermabrasion or any other strong resurfacing treatments for at least 3-4 weeks prior to your appointment. Gentle facials are ok.

24 HOURS BEFORE

  • To minimize bleeding please avoid any alcohol or Blood Thinners (Ibuprofen, Advil, Aspirin etc.). If you regularly take Vitamin E, Fish oil, or Niacin please discontinue use 72 hrs. prior to your appointment as well as these can also thin your blood. If you bleed excessively at your appointment it can result in blurred/Ashy healed results.

  • I recommend mapping directions to my studio so you know how long the commute is. If you are later than 15 min to your appointment I will have to reschedule you.

DAY OF YOUR APPOINTMENT

  • I recommend washing your hair the day of your appointment. You wont be able to get your brows wet for 10 days. This will at least give you a few days before your next wash.

  • Please avoid working out. This will increase blood flow and cause excessive bleeding.

  • If you normally wear makeup on your eyebrows please fill them in prior to your appointment. This helps me see what you are used to. If you have pictures of brows you like please have those ready as well for reference. Keep in mind I map out what brows will be best for your face shape so they will never be exactly like a photo.

What is Microblading?

Microblading is the process of implanting pigment under the surface of the skin using a small, sterile, disposable needle to create the appearance of hair like strokes. We use a topical lidocaine so there is minimal discomfort.

The procedure is done in two, sometimes three appointments to achieve the final look. The second visit should be booked 6 to 8 weeks after your first appointment. If a 3rd session is needed that should be booked 6-8 weeks after the second.

The final result can create bold, fluffy brows or a soft natural look. The decision is up to you! Whether you have full brows already and just need a little added arch or to fill in sparse areas.

Microblading will fade over time and a color refresh is recommended every 1-3 years. You want your Miicorblaing to be about 50-75% faded before doing a color boost. Otherwise you will end up with a more solid powder looking brow.

Is Microblading right for me?

Microblading is not for everyone, factors to consider include:

  • Extremely Oily Skin: Microblading may not work well on clients with very oily skin and/or LARGE PORES AROUND YOUR BROWS. Increased oil production can cause hair strokes to blur and heal lighter than desired. Ombre Powder Brow is recommended.
  • Darker skin: There may be less contrast between the strokes giving less detail. Ombre powder brow is recommended
  • Very thin, Mature skin: It is very easy to go too deep. The strokes will blur and look dark! Ombre Powder brow is recommended.
  • Previously Tattooed Brows/Laser Tattoo Removal: Scar tissue associated with previous tattooing or laser removal may affect pigment retention.
  • If you are anemic, your pigment may fade sooner and bleeding/bruising can occur.
  • If you are a frequent smoker, your pigment may fade sooner than normal.

Microblading is designed to blend with your natural brow hair, the more hair you have the more realistic results will appear. The ideal candidate has fine evenly distributed hair. If you have very little or no hair at all the results will appear more 2D, and it is possible you will need more than two sessions to achieve your desired result. Shading with Microblading or Ombre Powder Brows are a great option to give the appearance of fuller brows. If you have very thick, dense brow hairs that are in an undesireable shape, where we add Micorblading will always look lighter than where you have hair. It will give you a nice shape and make it easier to powder in your brows in the morning.

Microblading is not meant to entirely replace makeup. Eyebrow pencils and powders may still be needed if a more "makeup" look is desired. It will however cut down your application time tremendously!

If you have any concerns about whether or not you are a good candidate for Microblading please book a free consultation!

What can I expect after my Eyebrow Permanent Makeup Procedure?

You may have slight redness and swelling up to 48 hrs. after the treatment.

The pigment will appear darker and a little warmer the first week and will fade to a much lighter, natural look by the end of the 6 week healing process.

After one week tiny scabs will form, these will start to flake off around the second week resulting in some patchy areas. A thin layer of healing skin can hide some of these strokes and by week four and six your strokes will reappear. You must wait the full 6 weeks to see how they will turn out. After your first procedure some of the strokes may not hold and that is why we require a 6-8 week touchup to perfect your brows.

What is the proper Aftercare for eyebrows?

Day of Procedure

ALWAYS wash your hands before touching your brows, it is a wound!

Blot your brows every 10 minutes for the first hour after your appointment. Right before bed cleanse your brows, dry and apply a very thin layer of aftercare balm.

Days 2-10

Morning and night (and afternoon if you have oily skin) repeat the Wash/Dry/Aftercare steps from Day 1 above. Keep brows dry in the shower... steamy hot showers will cause the pores to open and scabs to soften, so to be cautious, no extra steamy hot showers!

What is to be avoided:

  • Do not get brows wet for the first 10 days (except for when you wash them); that includes steam and sweat. (Take quick showers so there is no steam on the mirror, Avoid the water ESPECIALLY shampoo and conditioner running down.. that’ll cause color discoloration!)
  • Avoid working out for the first 7 days, sweat can push out the pigment and also cause discoloration.
  • Avoid direct sun exposure and tanning beds for 2 to 3 weeks.
  • Do not apply sunscreen for 2 weeks. (If you are in the sun wear a hat and sunglasses)
  • Do not apply makeup on the brows for at least 10 days or until all scabs have fallen off.
  • Do not use any Hydroxy acids or Retin-A around the brow area.
  • No facials, Botox, chemical peels, or laser treatments for 4 weeks.
  • Do not pick, scratch, itch, or pull off any of the scabs or areas which are peeling. (Picking at or pulling off the scabs will cause the pigment to fall out and result in spots left without any pigment or in some cases scarring.)
  • Try not to sleep on your face, if you are a side sleeper I recommend sleeping with an airplane pillow and/or silk pillowcase.

Once healed – For better pigment retention keep your brows moisturized, wear SPF daily, and keep Retin-A and Hydroxy acids away from brows. After 6 weeks you can do a weekly physical scrub to remove any dead skin cells that may be causing your pigment to look less vibrant.

What is Ombre Powder Brow?

Ombre Powder Brow is a technique using a machine to gently implant pigment with a single needle rather than making tiny cuts like Microblading, causing less trauma to the skin. For this reason it can be done on more skin types. This technique is very versatile. It can be done very soft giving you a natural, powder look, or it can be done more saturated giving you that perfect makeup look!

How should I prepare for my Lip Blush appointment?

Lips are a sensual feature and are a crucial part of looking youthful. As we age we lose volume, color and definition. Lip blush is a soft blush of color which will also add definition to the border of your lips. Lip blush can last 2-5 years depending on what color is chosen and how saturated you would like the color.

How to prepare for your appointment

  • If you have ever experienced a cold sore, please begin taking prescription cold sore medication 2-3 days prior to your appointment. Trauma to the area can cause a flare up.

  • If you get filler in your lips you must wait 2 weeks to get them tattooed. If you are planning to do filler its best to do it before getting lip blush. The filler will plump your lips nicely and make lip blushing smoother.

  • It is important to come to your appointment with soft moisturized lips for best results. *Tip- Use a sugar scrub (you can easily make your own) to gently exfoliate your lips 3-4 days before your appointment.

  • Avoid lipstick for 1 week before as they can dry your lips out.

Lip After Care

  • Rinse with lukewarm water AM and PM
  • Keep lips moisturized with aftercare balm. Do not allow to dry out.
  • For 72 hrs. Avoid spicy, citrus, and greasy foods on the area.
  • For 7 days Avoid sun exposure, pools, excessive sweating, and kissing.
  • DO NOT PICK AT ANY SCABS this will pull color and may scar.
